b_miller.jpgBob Miller served as governor of Nevada from 1989 until 1999. While in office he assured that the millions of tourists who visited Nevada were treated with demonstrable hospitality.   He is currently a partner in the global governmental affairs group, Dutko Worldwide.

Realizing the importance of tourism within the Nevada economy, Mr. Miller became involved in the production of the Governor's Conference on Travel and Tourism more than any other public official before or since. He began traveling internationally as governor, helping boost air service into Nevada, assisting in establishing trade links and providing volunteer consultation, as practical, for nations seeking to modernize or westernize their tourism infrastructure. He personally made forays in to several nations, including Bulgaria, always carrying with him the banner of Nevada business and tourism.

In 1999, after serving as the elected Chairman of the National Governors’ Association (NGA), Mr. Miller persuaded then-President Bill Clinton to be the first US President to visit Bulgaria – a visit that set a course of friendship and mutual respect between Nevada’s Governor and the Bulgarian people for years to come.

Mr. Miller currently is serving on the boards of directors of International Game Technology, Wynn Resorts International, Newmont Gold Corporation, Zenith National Insurance Company, the International Association of Gaming Attorneys (Secretary) and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and as co-chairman of the Nevada Tourism Alliance.

A Las Vegas resident for 53 years, Miller received his bachelor of arts degree in Political Science from the University of Santa Clara and his juris doctorate from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. He is a member of the Clark County Bar Association and the State Bar of Nevada.  He has served the people of Nevada as a Justice of the Peace, Clark County District Attorney (eight years), Lt. Governor and was the longest serving Governor in the history of the state (ten years).

Mr. Miller served as the president of the National District Attorneys Association (1984), was appointed by former President Ronald Reagan to the nine-member Presidential Task Force on Victims of Crime (1992) and by former President Bill Clinton to the President’s Intergovernmental Commission (1993 to 1998).  He holds Honorary Doctorate degrees from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the Santa Clara University School of Law and received the President’s Medal from Claremont University s graduate school.

Mr. Miller has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) and the Nevada Mining Association.  He was presented with the Excalibur Award from the American Cancer Society, the Ethics in Government Award from Common Cause, the Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award from Women in State Government.

He is married to Sandy Miller and has three children, Ross (Nevada’s Secretary of State), Corrine (a production coordinator at Transistor Studios in NYC), and Megan (a senior in high school).
