In March 1931, Governor Fred Balzar signed into law the bill
legalizing gambling in the state of Nevada; the Silver State has more mountain
ranges than any other state, with its highest point being the 13,145 feet
Boundary Peak near its west-central border; Nevada is the largest
gold-producing state in the nation, second in the world only to South Africa;
Frank Sinatra once owned the Cal-Neva Lodge at Lake Tahoe's Crystal Bay. It is
possible to stand in both Nevada and California inside the Cal-Neva's lobby
lounge, and in its swimming pool.
