In 2005, NTA was borne from a call by business and community leaders to address critical issues of tourism industry concern and to aid in the lessening of special interest activities that could dilute the ability of Nevada’s tourism industry to grow and develop.

NTA is entirely unique in this country, and perhaps the world, for it is comprised not of the destination resorts, gaming institutions and lodging establishments for which Nevada is globally famous, but by the businesses and organizations that support those historic properties.

NTA is air service, ground transport, communications, insurance, food & beverage supply, medical and legal services, government affairs, manufacturing, destination marketing, entertainment and much more.

The list of companies that comprise NTA’s membership is as prestigious as the mission of the organization is respectful.  Names like AT&T, USAirways, IGT, Cirque du Soleil, Sysco, Southern Wine & Spirits, McDonald Carano Wilson, are but a few of the corporations that make up the NTA roster.

An over-riding Issue that has been identified by the NTA membership is taxation in its many forms.  Unbalanced taxes and fees have proven to be a nemesis to tourism health in communities in this country and globally for decades.

In Nevada today, over $30 billion is being invested in development of tourism projects along the Las Vegas Strip corridor alone.  According to leading analyst Bill Lerner of Deutsche Bank, this investment must have predictability in return or it should not continue.  Speaking before a group of approximately 80 NTA members in January 2008, Mr. Lerner spoke clearly and pointedly about Nevada’s uncertain future should new taxes be imposed upon our lifeblood tourism industry.

NTA stands ready to move forward the public’s appreciation of the tourism industry in Nevada, for in this state, more than fifty percent of the population is either directly or peripherally employed by tourism industry.

We are all vested in tourism in some manner – let’s keep this dynamic economic engine at peak performance.
